Neonatologists are trained to care for the most complex and high-risk newborn health issues. If your newborn is premature, or has a serious illness, injury, or birth defect, a neonatologist may assist at the time of delivery and in the subsequent care of your newborn.

Neonatologists primarily work in the Hospital’s Special Care Nursery, but may also consult with your obstetrician in your baby’s care during your pregnancy if a problem is identified before your baby is born. In some cases, after a newborn has been discharged from the unit, a neonatologist may also work with your pediatrician to provide short-term follow-up care on an outpatient basis.

Platte Valley Medical Center works in partnership with neonatologists from Children’s Hospital Colorado to ensure every high-risk newborn receives the highest level of care provide care to newborns in the Hospital’s Level II Special Care Nursery.
