Medical Emergencies

If you are experiencing a life or limb-threatening emergency call 911.

85% of heart damage occurs within the first two hours of a heart attack

Heart Attacks Have Beginnings

What are the early symptoms?

Nausea
Pain that travels down one or both arms
Jaw Pain
Fatigue
Anxiety
Chest pressure, squeezing, or discomfort
Back Pain
Shortness of Breath
Feeling of Fullness

Remember, people may or may not experience any or all of these symptoms and men and women may have completely different symptoms. Also, people may experience mild chest symptoms, such as pressure, burning, aching or tightness. These symptoms may come and go until finally becoming constant and severe.

When do I call 911?

Don’t delay. Don’t take chances. If you have chest pain or other heart attack symptoms, call 911 and seek medical attention immediately.

A stroke can change your life in an instant

Especially if you don’t respond quickly to receive life-saving care. From the moment you have stroke symptoms, your brains cells are not receiving the oxygen-carrying blood they need to function. This can cause damage to the affected areas of the brain – possibly resulting in disabilities such as trouble moving, speaking or thinking. The longer brain cells are deprived of blood and oxygen, the greater chance of damage to the brain. Stroke is the nation’s fourth leading cause of death. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds and someone dies of a stroke every 3.1 minutes. Stroke is a leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the United States, with about 4.7 million stroke survivors alive today.
