Childbirth Education Classes in the Women's and Newborn Center

At Platte Valley Medical Center we believe you are embarking on the most rewarding and challenging experience of all time - childbirth. We know that every birth and every family is unique and we offer a variety of classes designed especially to help prepare you for this experience. We also know that labor and delivery are just a small part of your experience. Pregnancy and parenting have challenges of their own, and we suggest taking one of the comprehensive educational programs listed below to keep you informed and healthy at every step. Choose the selections that best meet your family's needs.


Free Tours of our Women's and Newborn Center

Tours of the Women's and Newborn Center are offered so you and your family will be familiar with your surroundings and at ease during your hospital stay.


Days: Mondays

This four-week class is designed to acquaint the mother-to-be and her coach with the labor and birthing process through interactive discussions and the aid of handouts, posters, videos, and models. Relaxation, breathing and comfort techniques for a natural labor and birth are practiced, and information on epideral and other pain medication is also discussed.


Session: 4 weeks

Days: Mondays

Time: 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Price: $75/session

Breastfeeding Basics

Breast or bottle? Either way, this class will highlight the advantages versus disadvantages of breastfeeding. Breast preparation techniques, positions, returning to work while breastfeeding, common concerns and information about breast pumps is presented in two hours.

Baby Basics

This class assists parents on setting realistic expectations for their baby's first months and provides information and hands-on practice on bathing, diapering, cord and circumcision care. This class covers other topics of vital interest to new parents:

  • Infant brain development

  • Sleep schedules

  • Crying

  • Parental anxieties

  • Shared parenting

Baby Saver

This class helps prepare parents-to-be, new parents, grandparents, and childcare providers for emergency situations involving infants. This class will provide the latest information/statistics and hands-on opportunities for:

  • Infant CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)

  • Choking (Heimlich maneuver)

  • Illness and when to call the doctor

  • Fever/Dehydration

  • SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) Prevention

  • Selecting and securing your infant's car seat.

Prenatal Pilates Exercise Class

$11.00 / Class - 8-weeks Pre-Payment Required


Exercise is extremely important during pregnancy. In fact, many women who exercise during pregnancy have experienced increased endurance for labor and delivery, have better mood and sleep patterns, and a more rapid postpartum weight loss. Prenatal Pilates at PVMC is taught by licensed physical therapists. During class, you will learn the fundamentals of safe exercise, while building core strength, circulation, proper alignment, and breathing techniques. This eight-week class is for women in their first - third trimester of pregnancy.
